Exchange
is Trend Micro's enterprise antivirus for Exchange Servers. In addition,
ScanMail for Exchange includes email filtering which allows you to block
specific file types. This additional level of protection allows organisations to
protect themselves against the vast majority of new viruses and worms that are
spread by the naive user clicking on a .pif or .bat attachment that is received
in an email.

Remote Deployment and Management through Web or Windows Interface.
A single administrator can deploy, configure and manage
ScanMail from a central location to all remote Exchange sites across
the wide area network. ScanMail can be deployed to one Exchange
server, or many, including Microsoft Exchange Cluster servers.
ScanMail centrally manages all ScanMail servers via a single
Web-based or Windows-based console for remote configuration and
management.ScanMail also supports Trend

Email Content Filtering
The same technology used to protect Exchange servers from viruses is used to reject spam, malicious code, and objectionable content. Administrators can
create their own email filtering rules based on file attachment
types and message content to minimise the chance of new viruses
entering the system and impose the organisation's acceptable usage
policy.

Transparent Antivirus Scanning at the Server
Scanmail for Exchange's virus scanning is transparent unless a virus is detected - at which point the sender, recipients, and administrator are alerted by an email message.
ScanMail uses rule-based and pattern-recognition technology to provide detection and removal of known and unknown viruses. ScanMail also incorporates MacroTrap™,
Trend's patent-pending generic macro virus scanning engine, which detects and removes known and unknown Word macro viruses. With MacroTrap, heuristic-rules
administrators can configure various levels of heuristic protection when checking for known and unknown macro viruses. This prevents newly created macro viruses from
penetrating the Exchange server.

Automatic Web-based Virus Pattern, Scan Engine, and Patch Updates
ActiveUpdate technology provides automatic downloading of
virus pattern updates at administrator defined intervals which are
then distributed automatically to all other ScanMail servers.

Virus Alert Messages
When a virus is detected, ScanMail can be configured to send out standard or customised warning notifications based on the following tags:
- Administrator of the infected Exchange server
- Date and time of infection
- Exchange server that is infected with the virus
- Infected file name
- Recipient being infected
- Scan type used by ScanMail to detect the virus
- Sender of the email
- Subject of the infected message
- Virus action taken by ScanMail
- Virus name identified by ScanMail
If an unknown virus is found, you can use the ActiveX controls built into ScanMail to send the infected file directly to
Trend Micro who will analyse the infection and, if possible, return
a clean file within 24 hours.

Performance Monitor
Performance Monitor generates real-time reports of regular and infected email traffic passing through the Exchange server for easy analysis and reporting.
Performance Monitor enables administrators to balance IT resources by analyzing the Exchange server's relative productivity.

Scans many Compressed and Encoded Formats
ScanMail scans deep inside attachments to detect viruses buried in multiple levels of encryption and compression. ScanMail decodes BINHEX, UUENCODE, MIME,
S/MIME, and BASE64 attachments. Files compressed with PKZIP, ZIP2EXE, ARJ, ARJ2EXE, LHA, LHA2EXE, TAR, GZIP, LZEXE, PKLITE, DIET, MSCOMPRESS, CABINET, UNIX LZW,
COMPRESS, and UNIX PACK compression schemes are also effectively scanned. ScanMail even scans files with multiple compression levels; for example, a ZIP2EXE file that
has also been compressed with LZEXE and ARJ, then zipped twice - up to 20 layers deep.

Automatic Protection for New Mailboxes
ScanMail's automatic, real-time protection for newly created mailboxes prevents them from being infiltrated by virus-infected attachments while sparing
administrators the trouble of performing a manual scan every time a new mailbox is created on the Exchange server.
