Blue Coat Systems
provide a range of proxy appliances that provide caching of frequently
accessed pages to minimise system response times, together with web
security and policy enforcement tools that allow you to enforce your
organisation’s acceptable usage policy. In summary, the features
provided by the Blue Coat Proxy Server appliances are as follows:
URL Filtering
Blue Coat
supports filtering of user access to the internet against a URL filter
database such as Blue Coat Web filter or Smartfilter. These categorised
URL filter lists allow you to manage user access to specific types of
web site based on site category (e.g. pornography, gambling), their
credentials within Active Directory, time of day, and other factors.
Unknown URL’s can be assessed “on the fly” using Real Time Rating to
assess which category the web site that the user is attempting to visit
fits into.
Antivirus
Virus
Scanning is supported via ICAP to the Blue Coat Proxy AV appliances. The
Proxy AV appliances run licenses of popular virus scanning software such
as Kaspersky and McAfee to check all internet downloads for known
malicious code.
File Type Filtering
The
administrator can configure the proxy server to restrict the types of
file that the user can download (e.g. .htm, .asp, .doc). It is even
possible to configure policies that will restrict the download of
executable code to URL’s in the computing category, and then only by
members of the computing department.
Zero Day Threat Protection
Blue Coat
proxy appliances can also provide you with protection against zero day
threats by deploying them in conjunction with a Secure Web appliance
which will then provide protection against malicious Java and ActiveX
Code.
Reporting
Blue Coat
provides Blue Coat Reporter to provide reporting on User Web activity,
or of more advanced policy based reporting is required, the log files
are compatible with third party proxy log file analysis software such as
Cyfin Reporter Professional.
