Blue Coat provides a family of
intelligent appliances, along with a suite of powerful software
applications, that work together to give IT organizations the ability to
effectively control security and performance for all users and
applications.
Blue Coat appliances are available in
a broad range of configurations and are typically deployed in enterprise
branch offices, Internet gateways, end points, and data centers – as
well as in global service provider organizations. The appliances provide
intelligent points of control to secure Web communications and
accelerate delivery of business applications (with MACH5 acceleration
technology). Just as important, Blue Coat gives IT organizations
visibility and very granular control over security and performance, so
that policies can set based on who, what, where, when, and how users and
applications communicate with each other.
All of this functionality is
complemented by powerful management and reporting tools that make it
fast and easy to deploy, configure, and administer Blue Coat appliances
and technology throughout the distributed enterprise.
The BlueCoat range includes the award-winning
SG210,
SG510,

SG8100
Series. These appliances are based on a custom operating environment,
SGOS,
that incorporates
BlueCoat's Policy Processing Engine™ - a patent-pending
framework for applying security, access, filtering and performance policies
for any Web transaction. Unlike the operating environments of less sophisticated
security appliances, BlueCoat's SGOS is not built from an existing, general-purpose
operating system that has been stripped of non-essential functions. Rather,
it is a purpose built, hardened OS for safeguarding and accelerating access
to Web content.

Family
The SG510, SG810 and SG8100 were designed to meet enterprise requirements
for capacity, performance, availability and centralized management. While all
units provide the same broad family of application support and features,
the SG8100 provides an expandable, modular platform for customizing disk
size, RAM and network interface cards.
