The primary features
of the Ironport C series appliances are as follows:
SenderBase Reputation Filtering
Ironport Reputation filtering uses
intelligence from a global intelligence network to identify senders of
spam mail and block them from being able to send mail into your network.
The input into Senderbase is taken from honeypot email addresses, ISP
data, blocklists and other sources, and analysing the data and content
of the emails (e.g. spammed out Phishing links) allows Ironport to
identify rogue IP addresses and filter them out.
Ironport Anti Spam
Once the mail is accepted into the
system, Ironport anti-spam performs a further Bayesian analysis of
message content to screen out any remaining spam messages based on
content analysis.
Antivirus
All emails received are checked for
viruses using a Sophos antivirus engine.
Zero Day Virus Protection
Ironport have a partnership with Sophos
which enables them to provide you with protection in the early stages of
a virus outbreak by quarantining potentially virus infected emails until
antivirus definitions are released. At this point, the quarantine is
released for processing.
Identity Based
Encryption
Ironport provide an option of Identity
Based Encryption which enables email to be sent securely without the use
of specialist encryption software. The email is encrypted using the
recipient’s email address as their public key. The user then
authenticates against a hosted key server to view the secure email
message.
Email Attack
Mitigation
The underlying secure operating system on
Ironport appliances (AsyncOS) provides protection against common email
attacks such as directory harvesting, email bounce attacks, and mail
