McAfee Smartfilter Web Filter Software

McAfee SmartFilter is web filter software. It comprises a control list of many millions of URL's to which access may be selectively granted or denied. Smartfilter runs as a plug-in to the majority of proxy servers. To install the software, you simply download the appropriate version (for Microsoft ISA Server, Squid Proxy, or Blue Coat proxy server, configure the Smartfilter categories for which you want to implement web filtering, restart the proxy server and you are up and running.

If you have a Microsoft ISA Server or a BlueCoat Proxy Server installed, you can even manage user access privileges to site categories transparently in accordance with user credentials that are stored in an LDAP compliant directory (e.g. Microsoft Active directory / NDS). Using this feature, the appropriate level of access may be granted to board level directors, IT staff, and administrators.

Reputation Filtering
In addition to filtering in accordance with its own categorised control list, McAfee also employs McAfee's Trusted Source technology to block access to recently identified compromised sites thereby protecting your users against web-borne malware even though the URL itself may not be in a category to which access would normally be blocked.

Reporting
Smartfilter also includes strong reporting features by means of the Smartfilter Reporter software that is included with every licence. SmartReporter provides an easy-to-use Web-based interface that delivers immediate access to the information you need. Drill-down capabilities provide real-time feedback and instant snap-shots on your organisation's Web usage and trends by category, location, or individual.
